The Poudre Canyon Saga – Book 2
Thirty years have passed since Andre Pelletier’s final parting from his brother at the Horse Creek rendezvous. He has achieved prominence in his adopted Apsaalooke village as White Grizzly, war chief, and a member of the Council.
War hangs over the Powder and Bighorn River country with the Cheyenne and Arapaho nations joining the Lakota to fight the onslaught of white migration, and the hated bluecoat soldiers over the treaty-breaking Bozeman Road. The Apsaalooke were content to let their enemy, the Lakota, struggle with the soldiers until an Army company out of Fort Phil Kearny attacks White Grizzly’s village hurling them into the war.
Due to his knowledge of the white man’s world the Council looks to White Grizzly for direction in fighting the soldiers. Between his concerns for his family, a son gone insane becoming renegade, and the realization that the world they knew is rapidly disappearing, Andre struggles to find answers for the present, and what their impact will be on the ominous future facing them.
With war looming over them, Andre makes the journey to the Poudre Canyon to leave the women and children of his family in the safe care of his brother, Jean. Then, accompanied by his sons, he returns to the Big Horn River as White Grizzly – war chief, to fight a war he knows they cannot win.
Note Formerly titled "White Grizzly", published by Bottom of the Hill Publishing. The rewritten and enhanced novel is now published by Double Diamond Books under the title "The Last Buffalo Days".

The Last Buffalo Days The Poudre Canyon Saga Book 2 edition by Dave P Fisher Children eBooks Reviews
Andre Pelletier's village is attacked & destroyed by the bluecoat soldiers. He is rendered unconscious by a bullet to the head & when he comes around the village is in smoldering ashes. He finds his youngest daughter Marie crushed by the horses of the soldiers. The women & children have fled to the river among the woods. There had been thirty lodges with a fighting force of perhaps forty men. Andre's son Pierre returns with the other young men after chasing the bluecoats unsuccessfully. With extreme wisdom Andre is able to reign in the anger of his sons & the other young men who are calling for death to all whites. He points out that the bluecoats are the guilty party & the Crow must learn to live peacefully among the whites for their own survival.
Finally after much thought Andre decides to take the remaining women & children to a village on the Little Big Horn River where they will be safe. His women & children will go to his brother's valley & he tells his sons they & himself will return & fight.
This is a volatile situation that only begs for one spark to ignite the whole of the West. It's not a question of "if" but a question of when & where.
Cleanly written story that has kept me glued to the pages. This series pulls the reader completely into the adventure & you feel the pain, frustration & heartache of both sides. Simple words fall far short in attempting to describe the excellence of this story.
I highly recommend to anyone!
great reading
It was alright sort of slow to start out but got better at the end
This was a great follow up in the series. Sometimes it was predictable and other times it had some great twists. I like how the book moves along and brings plot lines together.
Dave P. Fisher 's work just keeps getting better!
This particular series has me enthralled... sweeping & so real you can almost smell the mountain air.
Highly recommended.
I would like to recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a very interesting and exciting book where the action never stops. I am finding these books to be very difficult to put down. I will be looking forward to reading the next book from this author.
Throughout this entire book, my mind and my heart have been broken from the loss of a way of life, that existed for who knows how many generations. Many civilizations have come and gone , but the author has taken us back to our past, in a manner that makes it seem like only yesterday.
Excellent read. Tough to accept the attitudes of the period. Well presented.
